In the previous post we talked about the many advantages of using woolen pieces, although sometimes we see some disadvantages.

In this post we will try to show how these disadvantages can become advantages with good treatment.

The wool socks, Australian wool, cashmere and lambswool from Punto Blanco, are treated with processes that avoid most of the disadvantages of this material and ensure comfort and exceptional warmth.

Next we explain how at Punto Blanco we turn disadvantages into advantages.

THE DISADVANTAGES (?) OF WOOL

1 - IT SHRINKS AND MUST BE HAND WASHED

NO WAY!!!!!

Wool hair, just like human hair, has outer part small scales that overlap.

When we wet it and rub it to wash it, these scales stick to each other causing shrinkage and felting.

To avoid this, at Punto Blanco we apply an anti-shrinkage treatment that keeps the scales with the original separation, while increasing the softness of the final product.

The Punto Blanco wool socks can be machine washed with cold and gentle programs. With a little care, you will enjoy your wool socks for a long time.

2 - THE SHEARING. BENEFITS OR HARMFUL?

A BENEFIT FOR THE SHEEP!!!!!

Contrary to what many people think, shearing is a process that benefits the health and well-being of the sheep.

Shearing is a basic need for the well-being of the animals, especially in the summer. During the winter, the wool protects the sheep from the cold.

At the end of spring they are sheared to better survive the high temperatures of the summer.

Once the wool is removed, little by little it grows back, so in autumn and especially in winter they are again protected with the wool of inclement weather.

3 - IT'S EXPENSIVE... BUT IT WILL LAST US A LONG TIME

IS HAPPINESS EXPENSIVE?

Certainly obtaining wool is a laborious process which has a cost that must reach the final product.

After the sheep are sheared, the wool is washed several times with organic products to remove impurities.

Subsequently, it is combed and spun to obtain more or less thick threads according to the needs of each fabric.

The finer the wool is, the more laborious will be the spinning process.

Finally, it is washed again and is dyed. Now we have our wool ready to make socks that will keep your feet warm for a long time.

Who wouldn't pay a little bit more to have warm feet in the winter?

4 - ITCHES

GOOD WOOL, RARELY ITCHES

Wool will itch depending on 2 factors:

- The sensitivity of each person

- The quality of the wool

There are people with very sensitive skin but in the case for people with normal sensitivity, the quality of the wool is definitive. The fine the wool filaments are, the less irritation they will produce.

Punto Blanco socks are made with merino wool and Australian wool that produce very fine filaments and, in addition, with the softening-anti-shrinkage treatment, the wool flake is coated and it can be said that it is very difficult for it to itch.

In this way the filaments cannot reach the afferent neurons, responsible for itching.

AND DON'T FORGET TO RECYCLE YOUR WOOL PIECES CORRECTLY!!!!

When are not useful to you, woolen garments can have a new life. You just need to recycle them correctly to contribute to the sustainability of the planet.
