Wool is a material that has been used since the Neolithic.

Adored at one time but now more out of use, wool is a material that has as many lovers as detractors .

In this post, we will try to find out what are the main benefits it has and see how the disadvantages can be minimized.

We are already telling you that the socks from WOOL from Punto Blanco will give you all the advantages and maybe... no disadvantages ;-)

THE ADVANTAGES OF WOOL

1 - THERMAL INSULATION

Contrary to what many people think, wool does not warm itself, but what it does is maintain body temperature, so if we wear wool socks, our feet don't get cold, what makes a great advantage.

2 - REGULATE HUMIDITY

The shape of the wool fibers, like scales tucked inside each other, traps moisture and does not let it pass to the feet. This is higroscopic property. In this way, with dry feet, the cold sensation disappears.

3 - FIRE RETARDANT

Although it can burn, it does so very slowly and sometimes it can go out spontaneously. We know it's not the most important property for socks, but in any case, it's good to keep in mind.

4 - BIODEGRADABLE

Since it is a 100% natural product, wool is biodegradable and does not pollute the environment.

5 - FLEXIBLE

When we bend it there is no mark because the fiber easily returns to its original position.

6 - ELASTIC

The wool fiber allows considerable stretching before it breaks and recovers its original dimension.

7 - BACTERICIDE

Although it is not totally immune to bacteria, it is very resistant to it. In the case of socks, bacteria are mainly responsible for bad foot odors. With some woolen socks, these bad smells decrease considerably.

8 - SUSTAINABLE

Complies with environmental REACH regulations, which many synthetic fibers do not. Sheep make wool and need to be sheared no matter what we use it for. The best thing we can do, then, is to take advantage of it.

9 - TWO CURIOSITIES

  • Lanolin is extracted from wool, which, among many other things, is ideal for the skin, thanks to its fatty composition with a content of Vitamin D3 .
  • Thanks to this component, it is a material highly recommended for elderly people or those who are bedridden, to minimize the sores from rubbing
