Nowadays, our concern for maintaining a wholesome and healthy diet is growing significantly. And we are increasingly taking greater care about what we eat.

There is a product whose sales in our country have risen over recent years owing to its incredible health benefits and properties. It is a fruit that is native to Mexico, discovered in 1510 by the Spanish during their voyages to the Americas. We are talking about the avocado.

Its name comes from the word "ahuácatl" that means "testicles", referring to the shape of the fruit. The Spanish called it aguacata or "avocado", which came to be used in English.

The avocado has many beneficial properties, some of the most notable being:

  • It improves the skin
  • It improves sleep
  • Source of vitamins
  • It helps prevent aging
  • Source of protein
  • It helps weight loss
  • It reduces cholesterol
  • Anti-carcinogenic

It has been shown that the avocado is one of the fruits that contains the greatest amount of potassium, double that of bananas, with a total of 900 mg in just one avocado. What's more, it is the fruit that contains the most proteins, with 18 that are essential for our bodies. It is also a great source of vitamin E, which protects neurones and memory capacity.

But we don't only have to eat it on toast, in salads or as a dip: it can also be used externally to care for our hair, applying it occasionally to the scalp to improve and strengthen hair growth. And it's great for fighting facial wrinkles or for treating the effects of sunburn.

A very simple, original and refreshing way to enjoy it is as a smoothie. Here's the recipe:

  • 2 slices of melon
  • A handful of spinach
  • 1 or ½ avocado (to taste)

We hope you like it. We love it!
